The American Osteopathic Association's Council on Postdoctoral Training currently authorizes residency training in the recognized specialty of neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine (NMM/OMM).

Specialty training programs consist of three types, all of which qualify the successful resident to sit for specialty board examination in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine:

• Integrated three year program in Osteopathic Family Practice/Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (FP/NMM)
• Two-year program in Neuromusculoskeletal medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM/OMM)
• One-year program in Neuromusculoskeletal medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine following completion of an AOA approved residency in another discipline (PLUS-ONE)
